Candle Making Molds For Making Quality Candles A mold is a container for making a shape. Candle making molds will shape the melted wax that is poured into it to cool and harden. Plastic candle molds are good for beginners. They are super easy to clean all you need is some soap and warm water. Make sure they are dry before using again because if it is wet you will get bubbles in the candle. They are the least expensive molds and are brittle so don't last very long. So if you want to bump up your hobby a notch or make it into a business you will want to invest in different molds. Liquid latex molds are fun molds. If you see an interesting object that you would like to make a candle out of you paint the latex on the object and let the paint harden into a mold. It needs a lot of coats to make it thick enough. Silicone molds are the most expensive. They are a type of rubber mold. They are flexible and can stretch so it is very easy to get candles out of them once they've hardened. Some molds require a releasing agent to get the candle out but not the silicone molds. Polyurethane is a rubber mold cheaper then silicone. They are flexible but don't stretch and require a releasing agent to get the candle out. They are frequently used in making pillar and taper candles. Polycarbonate molds come in many shapes and sizes like cones, spheres and pyramids. They actually can't handle very hot wax so you will have to avoid that. Make sure they have no scratches or cracks in them when you buy. Rubber molds many times have a lot of fine detail in them so have a lot of originality. When getting a rubber mold it is best to get one with thick walls. Aluminum molds are popular. They make professional looking candles because they leave a smooth finish with no seams. Aluminum molds are durable and heat resistant and easily cleaned. You put them upside down on a cookie sheet which is lined with aluminum foil and place in an oven at 150 degrees. The remaining wax will melt and drain out and onto the aluminum foil. When buying a metal mold get a heavy seamless mold so it will be durable and long lasting and leave no seams on the finished candle. Seams on a candle can gotten rid of by rubbing them down. Glass containers add a lot of beauty to a candle. You don't take the candles out of the glass containers as you do with a mold you burn the candle in the glass container so you will need glass which is approved for candle burning. They come in many shapes and some are of higher quality and more expensive. Try to get the high quality because they look high quality.
